What is Central Protection Act (CPA) ?

Purpose: Prevents violence against healthcare professionals and clinical establishments, covering both physical/verbal abuse and damage to property or reputation.

INCLUSION:
- Healthcare Professionals: Includes doctors, nurses, pharmacists, mental health workers, and students.
- Violence: Any act causing harm, injury, or damage to healthcare professionals or establishments.

Prohibition: Violence, especially based on caste, gender, religion, etc., is strictly prohibited. Offenses are non-bailable and serious.

Penalties:
- Imprisonment: 6 months to 5 years.
- Fines: ₹5,000 to ₹5 lakh.
- Grievous hurt: 3 to 10 years imprisonment and fines ₹2 lakh to ₹10 lakh.
- Compensation: Double the value of damaged property.

Enforcement:
- Offenses must be reported to police.
- Investigations by senior officers.
- Clinical establishments must have security and a grievance system.

District Committees:
- Chaired by local MPs, addressing medical negligence and violence cases.
