Smoking a Double Happiness Cigarette for the First Time
Specifically, I smoked and reviewed the (Shuang Xi) Double Happiness Classic 1906 cigarettes from China, which contained 10mg of Tar, 0.9mg of Nicotine, 10mg of Carbon Monoxide, appear to have a blend of Flue-Cured Tobacco, and were manufactured by Guangdong China Tobacco, with this is also the hard pack, but a soft pack is offered as well.
Since Shuang Xi, the Chinese name for this brand quite literally means Double Happiness, and is used as a good luck charm to some extent, I was hoping that these cigarettes would be good, and would also bring good luck.
DH is a Chinese cigarette brand that was first introduced in 1906 in Hong Kong by the Nanyang Brothers Tobacco Company, based in Hong Kong as well, and quickly became a hit in the first couple decades after its introduction, making it quite the lasting brand.
In the 1950’s, the parts of the Nanyang Brothers Tobacco Company located in mainland China became nationalized, and so today the brand is owned there by China's Tobacco Monopoly, CT, also known as CNTC.
However, outside the PRC, the brand is owned and produced by a variety of different manufacturers, so it can get quite confusing to say the least.
Today, DH is undoubtedly quite popular and iconic, especially within China and Hong Kong, but also within other regions around the world, where they are sold, sometimes illegally by third parties, to skirt the insane taxes that some countries require.
